NEW QUARANTINE GUIDELINES The CDC released new options to shorten a quarantine period. These guidelines apply to those that have been exposed to a positive COVID-19 case and remain asymptomatic. (Days figured from last day of contact with a positive COVID-19 case.) • If exposed to COVID-19 AND have no symptoms AND get tested on or after day 5 of your quarantine AND test negative, you only need to quarantine for 7 days from the date of exposure. • If you have been exposed to COVID-19 AND have no symptoms AND choose not to get tested, you only need to quarantine for 10 days from the date of exposure. • If you have been exposed to COVID-19 AND are having symptoms, you should continue your 14 day quarantine and get tested. • If you test positive at any point, you should isolate for 10 days from symptom onset or date of test (whichever occurred first). Symptom monitoring and masking should continue for the 14 days even if quarantine is shortened to the 7 day or 10 day time period. Common symptoms are loss of taste or smell, fatigue/tiredness, cough, runny nose and fever. People have also reported headaches, muscle aches, diarrhea, irritated eyes, sinus pressure and chest pain. Not everyone will experience each of these symptoms and some may only have a mild onset of 1 or 2 symptoms. COVID can mimic seasonal allergies or a mild cold. Be aware of what your body is telling you, treat mild symptoms seriously, and stay home even when you are mildly ill.

Our Spartan Youth Leadership Club (5th graders) under the new guidance of senior sponsor Tyler Petersen (HS TAG student) this year. Last year's senior, Ellie Schultes, originated the Club. This year we are having all 5th grade students participate in Grand Pals with the Exira Care Center. Once a month Tyler will lead the craft lesson that will be shared with each resident of the Care Center. Last month the students made hanging ghosts out of white cups with Halloween treats inside. This week the class sponge painted Thanksgiving Day turkeys for each of the residents! "I would like to thank Tyler Petersen, Spartan Youth Leadership Club members and the entire 5th grade Grand Pal students for making the residents day a little brighter by receiving their handmade crafts at the Exira Care Center!" stated Mrs. Dreier, Spartan Youth Leadership Club teacher sponsor and HS TAG teacher.

Our HS TAG students are serving our community during these difficult times with the Covid Pandemic. Katie Andersen and Ella Petersen are HS TAG students who create amazing monthly crafts for the residents of the Elk Horn Salem Home. They started last month by making hanging Halloween ghosts out of cups with chocolate treats for each resident of the Home with a kind note. This month the girls made adorable Happy Thanksgiving turkeys to hang up in each of their rooms. "Thank you Katie and Ella for giving the residents at Salem Home a smile on their face every time they look at the adorable turkey or cute ghost. The Salem Home director stated that the residents are grateful and appreciative of the beautiful homemade crafts and kind words they send each month!" expressed Mrs. Dreier, HS TAG Instructor.

Exira-EHK Mask Mandate: At our school board meeting in October the board had a discussion item about a mask mandate. Then at the November board meeting the Exira-EHK school board voted 7-0 in favor of a district wide mask mandate. Our school mask mandate is in place until January 18th, 2021. During that time it will be discussed and voted on again.
