Exira-EHK Parent Communication - COVID -19

July 6, 2020

Dear Exira EHK Families and Stakeholders,

This email is to inform you that Exira-EHK has submitted their Return to Learn Plan to the Iowa Department of Education. As required, the plan consists of three different scenarios: students learning at school, students doing distance learning, and a hybrid of the two.

There was a team of Exira-EHK staff, parents, school board members, administrators, and healthcare professionals who worked together to create this plan.

The team was organized into the following subcommittees: Leadership, Infrastructure, Health & Safety, Iowa Academic Standards, Social-Emotional-Behavioral Health, Equity, Data, and Catholic Identity. Some team members served on more than one subcommittee.

A summary of the Return to Learn Plan will be provided to parents and stakeholders in the near future, as well as a chance for questions to be posed and answered. There will be more to come on this.  The plan for now revolves around how Exira-EHK will operate and collect data in the three scenarios and is not a specific checklist that shows exact details on what each model will look like.

Exira-EHK will be updating families with any pertinent information as it becomes available.  We, as much as anyone, desire a return to traditional face-to-face instruction at school in the fall. In the next couple weeks, we will be receiving guidance from the Iowa Department of Education, Audubon and Shelby County Public Health regarding what face-to-face instruction may look like.

Please remember our teachers, staff, and administration are all new to this and are doing the best we can as we navigate decisions and find the balance between returning to normal and implementing new practices that will keep everyone healthy. Regardless of whatever learning models are implemented throughout the upcoming school year, we will keep the health and safety of our students and families a priority.

In care,

Trevor Miller
